Let that sink in for a moment. England. France. Morocco. A quarterfinal. All at Gillette Stadium. All within driving distance of your office, your community center, or your front door.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is bringing some of the biggest names in international soccer to Foxborough this summer — and if you are organizing a group, Local Motion of Boston is ready to get you there.

The Headline Matches

England vs. Ghana — Tuesday, June 23, 4:00 PM. A squad loaded with Premier League stars — Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane, Phil Foden, Declan Rice. Greater Boston has a significant British expat community, and this match will draw fans from across the region and well beyond. A 4:00 PM Tuesday kickoff means rush-hour traffic on every road heading south toward Foxborough. Plan accordingly — or better yet, let your driver plan accordingly.

Norway vs. France — Friday, June 26, 3:00 PM. This is the match — Kylian Mbappé vs. Erling Haaland, two of the three best players on the planet, head to head at Gillette. France, the 2022 runners-up and 2018 champions, against a Norway side built around the most lethal striker in world soccer. A 3:00 PM Friday kickoff puts arrival traffic squarely in the teeth of the Boston-to-Foxborough evening commute.

The Quarterfinal — Thursday, July 9, 4:00 PM. One of only four quarterfinals in the entire 48-team tournament. Two of the last eight teams in the world competing for a spot in the semifinals. This is the crown jewel of Gillette’s World Cup slate — and another weekday afternoon kickoff on Route 1.

Why Getting There Is the Challenge — And Why We Already Know It

The traffic and parking situation at Gillette this summer is not a prediction — it is already documented. On March 26, 2026, when Gillette hosted Brazil vs. France as a World Cup preview friendly, Route 1 gridlocked, parking was overwhelmed, and GPS apps sent drivers onto back roads and residential streets through Foxborough. CBS Boston reported that the town’s police chief described the traffic as having “sucked” — and that was one match. The France team bus barely arrived on time. World Cup fans walked 3.5 miles along train tracks to avoid the gridlock.

The World Cup brings seven matches at full FIFA scale. Parking drops from 20,000 spaces to approximately 5,000. The MBTA commuter rail will carry about 20,000 of the 64,000+ fans per match. Route 1 is the only road in and out. For the weekday afternoon matches that make up five of the seven fixtures — England, Norway vs. France, the Round of 32, the quarterfinal — all of that traffic hits during peak commute hours.
